Practical Lessons: What is involved?
Our lives (and the lives of others) are in our hands when we are driving so please be prepared to invest in as many lessons as you personally need to make you a safe driver.
The syllabus of learning contains all of the following for every new learner:
Car controls: What are the controls, where are they and how do they work?
Moving off and stopping: How to safely move the car forwards and stop safely.
Mirrors, vision and use: How to make the best use of the mirrors, what aspects you can see in the different mirrors, blindspots.
Turn in the road (manoeuvre): Using forward and reverse gears and the width of the road to turn the car to face in the other direction.
Reverse left and right (manoeuvre): Follow the kerb around a corner safely and under good control.
Emergency stop: Stopping the car quickly and under good control as if in an emergency situation.
Pedestrian crossings: The different types of crossings and how to deal with each one safely.
Reverse park (manoeuvre): To park the car safely and efficiently parallel to the kerb by pulling alongside another parked vehicle and reversing into the space behind.
Bay park (manoeuvre): To reverse from the left or right into a predetermined parking pay.
Approaching a junction to turn left or right:How to safely deal with left and right turns, including MSM, gears, speed and observation.
MSM (PSL): Mirrors, Signals, Position, Speed, Observation (Look). This is referred to as MSPSL in your text books.
T Junctions and emerging: How to approach a T Junction and make a left or right turn safely and under good control. Making good judgement on whether it is safe to emerge.
Crossroads: How to approach a crossroads from any of the 4 directions and emerging safely, give the appropriate priority.
